Here's a copy of a reply message from the Hobbs Forum: My ancestor is Erasmus Marion Hobbs, born 25 Oct 1833 in Georgia. I don't know his father's name. He married Martha Jane Elizabeth Jenkins 22 Aug 1857. He died 22 Jan 1886 in Clay County, AL. He's buried in Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery in Clay County. Erasmus Marion Hobbs enlisted in the Confederate Army, and was placed in Co. E of the 31st Alabama Infantry. He enlisted at Talladega, AL, which was the place of his residence. He fought actively with them until May 16, 1863, when he was wounded at the Battle of Baker’s Creek (Champion Hill, MS), and captured by the enemy, who amputated part of his right leg. Erasmus and Martha had 9 children: Penelope Susan "Nep" Hobbs: 30 Aug 1858 - 14 May 1949 Ara Ann Hobbs: 8 Sept 1860 Martha E. "Mattie" Hobbs Jones: 1 August 1864 - 20 Feb 1924 William Henry Hobbs: 7 Sept 1867 - 17 Dec 1935 Dink Manning Hobbs: 14 Dec 1870 - 15 Feb 1924 Sarah Jane "Sadie" Hobbs Jones: 9 Aug 1873 - 26 Nov 1950 John H. Hobbs: 5 Jan 1877 - 4 Jan 1906 Ella Hobbs: 23 Aug 1879 - March 1930 June Woodderd Hobbs(male): 6 Sept 1883 - 7 Feb 1966 William Henry Hobbs, my gg-grandfather, married Ada Ann Griffin. They had six children: Ola Virginia 27 Oct 1895 – 1975? Henry L. 22 Dec 1897 Infant Son born & died 13 Oct 1899 Marshall F. 1 May 1904 Hattie Lou J. 28 Oct 1909 Alma 20 Sept 1917 Ola Virginia Hobbs Wainwright (Ben) was my great-grandmother, whom I knew until I was about 15. She had 5 children who all live or used to live in Birmingham, AL. Hope this helps. Mike
