Claiborne Carter seems to be one of the early Carter's who was listed in the Grove Hill, Clarke co., AL 1860 census, living alone and a Farmer born ca 1793 NC. He was 67 years old.

I'm still searching for the progenitor of my Grove Hill, Clarke co., AL Carter family. My grandfather was Norman Lafayette Carter b. 1894, s/o Robert Lee Carter b. ca 1871, s/o John Merdith Carter b. ca 1838. Any help appreciated.
