Found some additional notes in our Family Files concerning correspondence between Margaret Stewart and Mary T. Lamb of Columbus, GA searching for information on William Riley Thornton b. 1819 in SC.Mrs. Stewart's reply dated March 1, 1978, to Ms. Lamb states in part: "I have nothing on your Thorntons. There was a large family of Thorntons in Pollard's Bend, descendants of Benajah (sic) Thornton, who came to Cherokee County from Harmony Grove, GA.He is buried at Shady Grove Church in Pollard's Bend (1812-1883).One of his daughters, Georgia, married a Webb. They had a daughter, Annie, who married Mr. Lee Henderson, now living at Centre, is over 90 years but very active.....In 1859 Dozier Thornton was Representative to State Legislature. He died in 1868.There was an Edmund G. Thornton, died 1867.His wife, Martha __.B., was executor of will.
"A younger Dozier (I am not sure he was son of the older one) was 37 years of age in 1880 and had a son Charles Thornton born 1875 (5 years old in 1880).I knew Mr. Charlie Thornton. He has a son Cecil Thornton living in Pollard's Bend today.....Mr. Charlie Thornton married Laura Sewell...."
