According to "Cherokee County History Volume V 1836-1956" by Mrs Frank Ross Stewart. Sr.

" John E. Cunningham's wife, Polly McCullough, was the daughter of C.M. McCullough, born Tennessee 1814, and wife, Mary A., born in Virginia 1814. Polly's brothers and sisters were: James, born 1841; Richard; Giles L.; Elvira; Martha Ellen, born 1849."

Carter Madison (C.M.) McCullough was the son of James McCullough and Betsy Elizabeth Brandon McCullough. James was born in Ireland. Betsy Elizabeth was born in Virgina. James & Betsy were married October 11, 1801 in Knox County TN. All of their children were born in Tennessee.

C.M. McCullough came to Ringgold Al in 1837 and married Mary Ann Elam Feb 13, 1840.
