Frances,
I have some Perkins in Cherokee Co., AL. I have Elijah Littleton Perkins who was born in North Carolina about 1825.We can assume that Elijah and wife, Mary lived in Georgia in 1853, since Madora, their daughter, wasborn in Georgia about 1853.We do not know what happened in thatfour year period, except that the family did migrate to Broomtown, Cherokee Co.,Alabama by1857 for the next child was born in 1857 in Alabama.According to the 1860 census of Cherokee County, Alabama, Elijah states he is forty, Mary is twenty six, Theodrick Patrick their first child is eleven, Elijah is nine, Madora is seven, Nancy E. is two and Martha D. is one year old.All the children were born in Georgia except Nancy and Martha, who were born in Alabama.Elijah states the value of the real estatehe owns is two hundred and fifty dollars.
I got some data about Elijah Perkins from Janice Patterson, who has letters that were written from Cherokee Co., AL, April 1863, from Eliza S. Daniell to Elizabeth Daniel-- "Perkins has sold out on the mountain. He got a hundred dollars for it. He rented the place you left. We all live together.", 10 Aug 1863 from Eliza Daniel, Mary's sister, wrote that" Perkins volunteered"( civil war)I don't know if any of this links with you, but I thought it was worth a try.
