Wm. C. OLIVER & Emma WHITTINGTON / GA , AL, TX
William C. OLIVER md Elsey WHITTINGTON 11 May 1828 Pike Co. GA. I believe this to be (William Chapman OLIVER and Emma WHITTINGTON) This may be the same family as shown on 1850 Alabama Census in Cherokee County. Here they are listed as William OLIVER and Aisley with Children: Wm. 19 M GA, Frances 16 F, Thaddius 14 M GA, Rebecca 12 F. GA, Virgil 10 M. GA, Charles 8 M. GA, James 6 M. GA, Sterling 4 M. GA, and Emma 2 F. GA. (Note: names William C, Virgil, Rebecca and Emma)
Sarah Alice OLIVER b. 19 Nov 1850 after the census, md. James Knox Polk SHELTON 5 Jan 1875 in Ellis Co. TX. Their first child James Virgil was born 19 Oct 1875 in Hempstead Co. TX Waller Co. Other children were Lilly, Minnie, William C. and Archie. (Note name Virgil & William C.) On Alice's death certificate her parents are listed as Chapman OLIVER and Emma WHITTINGTON from GA. I believe the above William C. to be William Chapman, and Elsey and Aisley should have been a pet name,Alicey (for Alice? Perhaps Emma Alice). Alice OLIVER SHELTON stated her family came to TX when whe was 13 (1863) and she was born in GA. Her granddaughter said she was from a family of 10 children and had siblings named Jimmy (James), Rebecca and Josie (Frances Josephine or Emma Josephine?? Alice would have been the 10th child in this family) Name similarities, and name possibilities are very convincing that this is the family of Sarah Alice OLIVER.
