William Merideth Russell was shot to death at the age of 44 while stepping out of the Spring Garden Post Office, Cherokee Co., AL in 1908. He left a wife, Mary, who died in 1920, and 9 children; Verna Russell (who married Tom Law), Lula Russell, Elva A. Russell, Evie Viola Russell (who married Lindsey Lanham), Ada L. Russell (who married Neil McCloud), Ida L. Russell, Lerlia I. Russell, Chancelor B. Russell, and Dewey H. Russell. The Lindsey Lanham family moved to Bartow Co., GA. Where were William Russell and his wife Mary buried? Did the other children stay in the area and raise families? Apparently William Russell had family in the area, since family tradition claims his brothers chased the killer into GA but never caught up with him. Who were his brothers? Who were his parents? There is some supposed relation to Senator Richard B. Russell of GA.
