In my research, I've learned that all the Indians whites called Creek weren't necessarily Creek. They included any Indians in the area and the Choctaw, Creek and Cherokee shared the region and sometimes married and sometimes fought each other. A lot of the Cherokee words in the Carolinas are actually Creek words. Any white relatives in the region in the 1700s - especially in the Coosa, Tuckabatchee, and other nearby areas in Monroe County, AL at least had contact with the Indians if not intermingled with them. Many of the Creek chiefs were of mixed heritage, like Chief McIntosh and McIllivery (?). And some of the Creek were part of Cherokee or Choctaw as well. I would say that most white families that made a point to settle in that area had to have mingled with the Natives. My farther back Creek ancestors are buried in Monroe County, AL as Far Off and Hannah never moved to Mississippi. I'm descended from their daughter Jennie Hale Strickland who moved with her husband Simeon to Wayne County MS. Jennie's granddaughter married James Sandy McLain and their son Hilliard McLain Sr. was my grandfather. And that's how I am connected to Mathilda Norris McLain and her mother Isabella Hester Norris. Mathilda was James Sandy's mother, Isabella his mother-in-law. And James Sandy was my great-great grandfather. And that is even if Isabella isn't connected to my other Hester relations on my dad's side. So, I'm just very curious about her since Mathilda would be my 3xgreat-grandmother and Isabella my 4xgreat-grandmother. And descendants of James Sandy McLain are all related to the same line of Muscogee Creek I am since he married Far Off and Hannah's granddaughter. I've made connection with some of the other descendants from the Creek line descended from James Sandy and Jane Carlisle McLain. It's a BIG family. And Isabella and Mathilda are ancestors to all of us in The McLain/Strickland family.
