Shelby:

1. The 1900 census should tell where George W. Brewer was born as well as where his father was born. I have a James Brewer who married one of my Hale relatives. Thye came from Grayson County, Virginia as did many of the early Cherokee County settlers.

2. If George Brewer was born in 1846, he may well have served in the Civil War. George Brewer would have been 15 in 1861, when the Civil War began and and 19 in 1865 when it ended. Several companies were raised in Cherokee County, one being th D Company, 19th Alabama Infantry in which 3 of my great uncles served. The muster roll for the D Company, 19th Alabama is available on-line other Cherokee County company muster rolls may be available on-line as well.

"The Cherokee County Heritage", was published in early seventies. It has a lot of material on early Cherokee settlers. You might check with The Cherokke County Library in Centre, Alabama.
