The WPA did a survey of cemeteries of several counties back in the 1930's, including Cherokee County. The Alabama Archives in Montgomery, has A copy of the Cherokee County Cemetery Survey. The survey lists by cemetery & includes information on tombstones. This survey is very useful because it includes information from some cemeteries that have since degenerated & much of the information is not legible.
