Hi Luther- Yes, I did go the Court House. They let you go through the records yourselves, most bound into large books- there are Direct and Indirect Index for Deeds and then copies of the microfilmed deeds. Mortgages are in Montgomery they said at the AL Archives. There are Probate Minutes, some old Lafayete Sun Newspapers (late 1880's and 1900's), Will Index, Bond Records etc. The room is very small and with 4 of us in there we were very close. MANY records are located on tall shelves and you have to climb up a Library type ladder. They help point out what is where but it is up to you to get the books (heavy) and refile them. There were no Tax Books in that room but supposedly there is an off site old storage which MAY have some tax books (no particular order they said)...I ran out of time so did not get a chance to check out the storage they mentioned.

I noticed several GOLDEN references in the deed books though don't recall the given name. My Ancestor Benjamin Guthrie Purchased land from a William Golden 19 Nov 1839.

Pat
