Chambers Co. Court House

Has anyone been to the Chambers Co.Court House in Lafayette? Do they have 1840's records i.e. Tax Books, Deeds, etc. Are they indexed? Can you go in and view their records yourself or do you have to have a Clerk look items up. What charges ? Any hints appreciated- I am thinking of visiting there next month in search of my GUTHRIE ancestors who I know were in that County very early 1840's. Thanks.
