Hi Bill,
I do not know the answer to your question, but always try to respond to anyone dealing with Benton, Calhoun/Cleburne problems. Were all of the people you refer to Boozers? To the best of my knowledge, my Thompson line moved into Benton, from SC, at about 1830.After a few decades, they seem to disappear. I have contacted other Thompsons who have a similiar story.
My ggrandfather David Thompson was married to Jane Richey, in Benton, on 23 Dec 1847.My grandfather, in later censuses, stated that his father was born in SC.That is absolutely all that I know of him.I have never been able to find him in the 1850 census; in the 1860 census, Jane, his wife, is head-of-household living next door to her father John T. Richey.Presumably, David died before then.
There were several Thompson families in the area at that time, but I have been unable to make any connection.
I do have some ideas about the settlement of the area, but will attempt to send a separate e-mail about this, rather than cluttering up this forum with my guesses.
Dave
