My 2ggrandmother, Jane Richey, was born about 1830 to John Richey and Nancy Payne. On 23 Dec 1847 in Benton County Alabama she was married to David Thompson. They had four children: William, Amanda, Charles Jackson (called “Jack”), and Margaret. I have not been able to find them in the 1850 census. She is head-of-household in 1860 census of Calhoun County, Alabama, living next door to her father, John Richey. It is assumed that David was dead by then.
In the 1870 census of the 5th Dist., Carroll County, GA., Jane is listed as wife of Peter McCain, together with their four year old daughter Nancy and the two daughters from her marriage to David Thompson.
In the 1880 census of Carroll County (Dist. 729), Peter and Jane are listed together with their now fourteen-year old Nancy and another nine-year old daughter whose Christian name I could not discern. Also in this household is a sixty-three year old female whose surname seems to be Bryant, and first name could be Polly—it is unclear. She is shown to be sister of the head-of-household. In the next household is Jackson Thompson (Charles Jackson, called “Jack), one of Jane’s sons from her first marriage; together with his wife Lucinda and the first four of their children.
The only information that I have about Peter McCain; that he was born in Ireland about 1835, comes from censuses.
There is no 1890 census extant; and I cannot locate any of the foregoing people in the 1900 census; therefore my knowledge of them ends with the 1880 census. I descend from the above mentioned Charles Jackson Thompson and know most of his line down to the present. I know nothing of what happened to his siblings, (William, Amanda, and Margaret), nor their descendents; nor the descendents of Peter McCain and Jane.
