On the 1790 census for Spartanburg, SC, page # 30 lived Samuel Timmons, living next door to Samuel was Manley Ford. He was described as single and having two slaves. Also living nearby was Moses Timmons and Abner Timmons who are the brothers of Samuel Timmons. The land that these four lived on once belonged to John Timmons the father of Samuel, Moses and Abner. The Timmons brothers were given the land by their father John Timmons. I assumed that Manley Ford bought his land from them or it was to him for some as yet unknown reason. I do know that the Timmons brothers served in the War under a Capt. Ford but don't know if he was this Manley Ford.
On the 1800 census for Spartanburg, SC, living by the Timmons brothers was: William FORD, Manley FORD, William FORD, & Zadock FORD.
On the 1810 census for Spartanburg, SC, living there was William FORD, Capander FORD, Manley FORD, William FORD, James FORD, Zad FORD, & Westwood FORD.
On the 1820 census for Spartanburg, SC, living there was: Mamly FORD, William FORD, Cassander FORD, John FORD, Zad FORD, James FORD, & Westward FORD.
On the 1830 census for Spartanburg, SC, living there was Captain Manly FORD, John FORD, William FORD, James FORD, & Cassander FORD.
Sometime in late 1830 or early 1831, the Timmons and some of the Ford moved to Anniston Benton County, Alabama. I don't know which of the Ford family made the move.
On Feb 29, 1848, Daniel BG Timmons married in Anniston, Alabama, Mary Ann Ford who was born in 1829 in Spartanburg, SC and had made the trip to Benton County, Alabama with her parents and the Timmons family. She was from a Ford family which had lived near the Timmons in Spartanburg but I don't know which of the Ford were her parents. The marriage license doesn't say what her parents names were as she was 19 years old and didn't need their signature to marry.
On the 1850 census index for Benton County, Alabama are these Ford: Emery FORD, William FORD, John Ford, Belton FORD, Malilda FORD, William E. FORD, William T. FORD, John FORD, Manly H. FORD, Elizabeth FORD, & Isaac M. FORD.
Having only seen the index and not the actual census, I don't know which of these Ford where from Spartanburg but of those who were, one is the family of Mary Ann Ford born in Spartanburg in 1829 and married Damiel BG Timmons in 1848 in Anniston, Alabama.
Which brings us to my problem, which of these Ford families is the family of Mary Ann Ford ???
