The state of Alabama started requiring that births and deaths be reported to the state in 1908. I'm not familiar with Calhoun County's record keeping. Other Alabama counties have not been really great at providing records, except for probate information. I have found that my best source of information has actually been from death certificates. I checked your ancestor's name through the Ancestry World Tree and noticed that he died in Sacramento County, CA on 9-17-1959. I have no experience in dealing with California, but you may wish to try to order a death certificate from the state. All of mine have been from Alabama, so I hope you can get similar results from other states. I saw a 1900 census entry from Memphis Ward, Shelby, Tennessee, stating that a Harry L Neville was living in the household of Harry and Maranda White. The handwriting is dreadful, so I hope the transcription is accurate. He is listed as a grandson, so perhaps his parents died before he really knew them? The census indicated that he was 7 years old, born in March of 1893, from Alabama with parents who came from Pennsylvania. A 1930 census has a Harry L Neville, age 36, living in Sacramento, CA with his wife, Margaret. He is also listed as having been born in Alabama, with parents from Pennsylvania. I hope you find the information you are looking for. Notify Administrator about this message?
