YOUNG family in Calhoun County area
I am desperately seeking info on family of my gg grandmother, Nancy Ann T Young who married John Thomas Christain.
Nancy was born in Alabama 23 January 1856.She died in Lamar County, Alabama on 11 February 1924.
According to her death certificate, her father's name is William and her mother's name is Nancy (maiden name unknown).Census records 1880 thru 1920 are consistent in that her father's birthplace is listed as Georgia and her mother's birthplace is listed as Alabama.
Nancy's son Thomas Lee Christain was administrator of the estate of Tom Young of Calhoun County (actually, it was Route 2, Lincoln at the time which is on the border with Talladega county) during the 1930's.Tom was a bachelor who died in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.Tom had an "old maid" (supposedly his sister) who also lived in Calhoun County with him, named Mary, who predeceased him.
I am told that the Tom and Mary are siblings of my Nancy T Young.I'd like verification of that. I did find a Tom and Mary in both the 1900 and 1910 census records for Calhoun County, but they indicate uncle and niece, not brother and sister. The 1900 census also lists a John W Young as Mary's brother.Tom is possibly "Thomas W" and Mary is possibly "Mary A".Those are the census listings I've found thus far.
I did find cemetery listings in Green Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Calhoun County for both Mary and Tom.Only thing is that the tombstones simply say "Tom Young" and "Mary Young" and no more.
I do not live in the area and would dearly love any and all help I can get.Do any of these names sound familar to anyone?
I'll be happy to share my ignorance on Nancy's descendants if someone is interested.
Thank you so much!
Mary
