Davis family in Butler Co. in 1866 State Census

I found a L.J. Davis, in the 1866 state census in Butler Co., AL. It list 4 males and 4 females living in the house hold. That fits my Leroy J. Davis. The age's fit his family, except for one son (Thomas) who was old enough to be on his own. I also have that my Leroy J. Davis died in 1866. What month was the census taken?
Does any one know who L.J. Davis family could be?
Does the county court house have probate records back then?
Any help would be appreciated
