OK. Here we go. Lochamy is a Scottish name, claimed as a member of the Douglas Clan. According to the 1850 census, a Fleet Lochamy (age 27) was living in Union County, SC, with his wife Sarah (20), son William James or James William (said to be 2 yrs old), and daughter Cassandra (10 months). By 1860 they were in Forsyth County, GA with 3 more children. Notice, according to this info, James was born in 1848, not 1845. (Dates and ages were "fluid" in those days. See later info.) Both Fleet and James fought for the South in the Civil War. Sarah is listed in a book of Civil War widows, but Fleet did not die in the war because he is listed in the 1880 census. I have seen Sarah's death certificate. It says she died of "old age and poverty" in 1903. I do not know when Fleet died. James married Amanda Christian about 1865-66. They lived in Gwinnett County, GA and had 4 children: Charles, Mary (my Great Grandmother), Sarah (YOUR SARAH), and Dora. In 1868 they moved to Blount County, AL where Amanda's parents, Polly and Charles Woodson Christian lived. Amanda died in Necter, AL in 1874, maybe giving birth to Dora. After the funeral all four children moved in with Christians. On 12-29-1878 James married Sarah E. (aka, Sally) Griffin (b. GA 9/20/1860-61, d. AL 2/17/1943). By the 1900 census they had had 10 children, 7 of whom had survived: Mina (1883), Julia (1885),Lawrence (1888), Fannie (1889), Ida (1891), Annie (1896), Nettie (1898). James, Sarah E., Lawrence, Nettie, and Fannie are all buried in Hopewell Cemetary in Hanceville, AL. James' grave is on the front row along the road and 100 yrds from the church driveway. The stone says he was born 2-24-1845. (Fluid years, remember? I have census and Confederate data that variously show his birth every year from 1843-1848.) Best.
