John, this is so old I do hope you have found your info by now. However, in my search for Silas Brewer there was a flag on the census (through Ancestry) that had an Isam shown as a possible research. I thought perhaps he might have been the father of my Silas.
I pulled the 1860 census for Isam --which is shown as Isam Brown not Brewer but was on the Brewer info. for Silas. It shows Isam born about 1810 in NC. He is age 50 and his wife is listed as Sarah Brown age 48. The others are: Wm., age 20, Jno.,age 18, Elizabeth, age 14, Jas, age 9 and Mary age 4.
This 1860 Census shows they are living in Shelby, Alabama.
