Have you come across the name "Charles Early" in Bibb County records? This name was used for several descendants of John and Rhoda (Lovelady) Fulton, early residents of Six-Mile, Bibb Co, AL.

I'm trying to prove the correct ancestry of John Fulton. He was born 1800 somewhere in Tennessee and Charles Early may represent an important clue.

John Fulton married Rhoda Lovelady at Bibb Co, AL, on 11 April 1824.*

John Fulton may have met Rhoda Lovelady in TN or in Alabama. In January 1824, David Lovelady married Dorothy Claybaugh at Shelby Co, AL [Bobby Joe Seales, "Shelby County Marriages"]. A few months later, April 1824, Rhoda Lovelady (younger sister of David) married John Fulton at Bibb Co, AL [Marcella Davis, "AL Marriages Before 1825"]. In 1844, William Lovelady (son of David and Dorothy (Claybaugh) Lovelady) of Shelby County married his cousin, Sarah Fulton (dau of John and Rhoda (Lovelady) Fulton of Bibb County.

John and Rhoda (Lovelady) Fulton named their first son, William Fulton. William was born in Bibb Co, AL, around 1827 and he married 13 Aug 1846, at Bibb Co, Elizabeth Underwood. They named a son, "Charles Early Fulton", b 1855 Bibb Co, AL, and in 1880, widow Elizabeth (Underwood) Fulton, was still living in Bibb Co, AL, along with a grandson, "Early Fulton" who was born 1869 in AL.

John and Rhoda (Lovelady) Fulton named their second son, Samuel M. Fulton. He was born in Bibb Co, AL, in 1832 and he married 20 Jan 1857, at Bibb Co, Martha McTyer. They named their first son, "Charles Early Fulton," b 1858 at Bibb Co, AL. This couple left Alabama before 1870 and were living in Robertson Co, TX, in 1880.

Who was Charles Early? Clearly, he is an important person to the Fulton family.

*Did John Fulton really marry Rhoda Lovelady at Bibb Co, AL or somewhere else? I'm not sure. The Bobby Joe Seales transcript of Shelby County Marriages is a true copy of authentic records. The Marcella Davis collection of "AL Marriages Before 1825," on the other hand, fails to credit source documents and is, therefore, unreliable.
