I recently began receiving messages in response to an entry in the DNA Results of Southern Smiths DNA project. Without my knowledge, I was quoted from my article, ISAIAH SMITH AND ELIZABETH GRICE, "HERITAGE OF BARBOUR COUNTY, AL, Vol. 3, Page 637" in which I wrote that Isaiah Smith who died in 1857 in Barbour County could not have been the son of Moses Smith of Marion County, SC. The DNA Results entry stated, "There is a controversy in our notes re Isiah Smith" and gave my name as author and added "Any information or proof either 'for' or 'against' would be appreciated." Since the person who sent the entry was not identified, it appeared that I was asking for a vote as to whether I was right or wrong. I requested that it be removed from the internet and apparently it was removed from the DNA Results site but I found by it by an in-depth search of my name.
I DID NOT submit the data to the DNA project nor did I ever request a "vote" as to whether I was correct. My article in HERITAGE OF BARBOUR COUNTY, ALABAMA is well documented and the statement re Moses Smith of Marion County, SC, can easily be confirmed by a search of the county records of Marion County and the US Census records. Even a beginning genealist should know that those steps must be taken to establish a credible genealogy.
