In Germany I was accustomed to drinking "Rauch Bier", which had the novel taste of smoked bacon. And now, where I live here in Augusta GA, we have had a Smoaks Bakery for at least 30+ years, up until the Smoaks family decided to fold its operation in recent years past, but I never made the connection between the Rauch and the Americanized Rauch to Smoak until you mentioned it herein. Live and learn.
