Civil War - Clayton AL Guards question
I know that this Clayton Guard was formed in the initial stages of the war, and later rolled into something else, but I don't know what.I am hunting what it rolled into, hoping to find what happened to a Lewis family member that joined that Clayton Guard in the begining of the war.
I am trying to track William Green Lewis, one of the sons of Benjamin Lewis and his wife Anna Jane nee' Creech of Barbour County, AL.
The William Green Lewis that I seek was shown as:
Pvt. Co. H Clayton Ala. Guards [12 months]
1st ALA REG VOL
Enlisted at age 25
Have found no further records for him.
His father Benjamin Lewis and brother Henry Harrison Lewis enlisted in a different unit:
Benjamin Lewis enlisted Mar 15, 1862 as Private, Company K, 29th Alabama Infantry Regiment, age 51;
Henry Harrison Lewis enlisted Mar 10, 1862 as Private, Company K, 29th Alabama Infantry Regiment, age 21.
There were two other brothers, A. J. (Andrew Jackson) Lewis b. 24 April 1847 and B. S. (likely was Benjamin Shelby) Lewis b. 1845, who were never heard of after the war. They were too young to enlist initially, so may have enlisted during the later years of the war, when things were even less organized.I have found no further records of them.
If by any chance, you would look at what you may have to see if these Lewis family members are mentioned, I would be very grateful.
