I'm not related to this family. However, I thought that this obituary might help someone.
James Evans Akridge, 79, St. Clair, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Washington. Mr. Akridge was born March 28, 1923, the son of James Akridge and wife Leana Preston, nee Clarkson. On October 3, 1942, he was united in marriage to Essie Marie South, Eight children came to bless this union. Mr. Akridge served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving his honorable discharge July 24, 1943. During his working years, he was employed as a machinist at H & H Machine Shop in St. Louis. Mr. Akridge was preceded in death by his parents, James and Leana Akridge; his wife Essie Akridge; two sons, Richard Akridge and Harry Akridge; and numerous siblings. He is survived by two sons, Anthony Akridge and wife Roselind, Imperial, and Phillip Akridge and wife Karoline, Manhattan, Kansas; four daughters, Norma Kay Price, St. Louis, Cynthia Thoms and husband Billy, St. Clair, Gina VerHey and husband Sid, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Debbie Hillyer and husband Paul, Springfield, Illinois; one sister, Ida May Brantley, Grainger, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Friday, March 14, at the Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Chauncey Clay officiating. Private committal services will take place at a later date. Memorials to the family of James Akridge or charity of choice are preferred. The Akridge family is being served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
