Dear Evylene,In the Summer 1998 issue of the Clan Akins Society's newsletter, there is an article on the early Clan Akins records in Virginia. This included a brief family tree chart showing the family of James Akin, Sr. & his wife Sarah, of Henrico Co., Virginia, as well as early immigration records. Your James Akin, Sr. may have been a son of either "Jno. Aekin" who was brought to Virginia in 1645 by John Rode of Warwick Co., Virginia; or perhaps a son of "John Acken" who was brought to Virginia in 1653 by Col. William Clayborne. These are the earliest records of Virginia immigrants of our Clan in that state, and as your James Akin was born in the early 1600's and received a land patent for 250 acres of land in Henrico Co., Virginia, on 20 October, 1665, he may have been the right age to have been a son of either one of these other two men. At least this may give you a direction to look in, and some clues to work with. I hope that it may be of some help.
