I checked the census for 1830 in Burke Co and at that time I found Joshua Akin listed on page 128 living in the 1st & 2nd Regiment Township. John McCaslin was listed on page 181 living in the 3rd & 4th Regiment Township. So it looks like they were not living close to each other. I could not find Joshua Akin in the 1820 census but I found John McCaslin's father Matthew McCaslin living on page 97 of that census.
I believe John McCaslin's father to be Matthew McCaslin who died in Macon Co, NC after 1830. Wife of Matthew is unknown. William Stroud who was born 1775/1785 in Orange Co, NC and died 1827 in Burke Co, NC is the father of Rebecca Stroud. Rebecca's mother's name was Delilah-----. John McCaslin's wife Rebecca Stroud was named in court papers in Burke Co, NC as a minor child of William Stroud at his death.
According to the 1830 census for John McCaslin their were 2 females under 5 living in the household. One would be my gg grandmother Margaret E. McCaslin. Either the other one died young or she is problably one of the females in Van Buren Co, AR. John and Rebecca McCaslin's son was born around 1832 in TN. according to later census records.
Have you ever heard of Caroline Gosnell? She was living with John & Rebecca McCaslin according to the 1870 Van Buren Co, AR census. She was born in NC. I was thinking that she could very well be their missing daughter.Living with her were Gosnell minor children named 16 y/o Caroline, 15 y/o Oregon and 10 y/o Margaret. They were all born in AR. Also living with them was 23 y/o Wiley Boss (Bost) and 23 y/o Celia A. Bost. Wiley was born in NC and Celia born in IL. Wiley's father? Elias Boss (Bost) was living next door. I believe the Bosts left NC before 1850, lived around Johnson Co, IL till after the civil war and then moved to Van Buren Co, AR after 1865 and before 1870. I don't know if the Bosts were relatives or not. On that same page is my ancestor Margaret (listed as Myra) Martin.
Do you know of others from Van Buren Co who moved to Stockdale in the late 1800's? When I 1st started my genealogical research 2 years ago I thought that Albert Martin and his wife moved to Stockdale on their own. Now I realize it was many who moved there.
I noticed one of the Akins married a Will Hardin. Albert's sister Josephine married a Hardin also and moved to Stockdale about the same time.
I'm afraid I am not much help on the surname of Sary, wife of John M Akin. I'll keep looking at it though.
