Trying to find out which Akers Family branch I belong to. No one in my family ever put much interest in researching our "Akers" side of the family. I will give you all I know starting with the name I have from the furthest back. My great-great grandfather: Garland Akers (this is all I know except for his childrens names). Garlands children: (son) Fred Lee Akers (my great grandfather). Fred may have had brothers and sisters. Fred Akers married Senna Mae McMillan (don't know if her name is spelled right). I was told that Fred was originally from Fries, Va. but lived a big part of his life in Nemours, W.Va. where him and Senna rised there sons and ownwed and ran a small country store. Fred and Sennas children were: James Cody Akers (my grandfather) and Chester Akers. Chester married Prince Goldie (don't know last name) and was reported to live in Salem, Va. They had 2 children: Ted Akers ad Dorothy Akers which are also rumored to have remained in Salem, Va. James Cody (my grandfather) marrid Della Hazel Parnell. They had 5 sons. I have only heard my grandfather referred to as Cody and he died in 159 or 1960. He lived in Carroll Co. Va. and West Va. (around McDowell, Keystone and Nemours). I have also heard that he worked for the railroad in W.Va. His sons are: Cody Robert Akers (aka.Robert and Bob) (my father) Born: 2/14/1943 Died: 7/24/2006. James Chester Akers born: 1936 died: Dec.1995 (aka: Jim). William Fred Akers (aka. Bill) died: 2004. Jacob Mcoy Akers (aka. Jake). Ronald Allen Akers (aka. Ronnie). My father Cody Robert married Ovelia Imogene Easter and had 2 children: Donna Jean Akers born:1961 and Robert Anthony Akers Born: 1963. Cody Robert was born in McDowell County W.Va. and lived early years in W.Va. then in Carroll Co., Va. He lived his later an final years in Martinsville, Va. His daughter was born in Galax, Va. and his son Tony was born in Bluefield, W.Va. He had 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. James Chester married Bonnie Woolridge of W.Va. and lived the most part of his life with his family in Martinsville,Va. He had 3 children. James Cody Akers, Gaynell Akers Cannoy and Wiliam Paul Akers. His eldest son proceded him in death along with 1 grandson. He had 2 grandchilren and 1 great grandchild. William Fred Akers (aka. Bill) married Katherina Dorn of Aushaufensberg, Germany where he lived most of his life and died. He also retired from the U.S. Army after pulling several tours in Vietnam. They had no children. Jacob Mcoy Akers (aka. Jake) married Evelena Elvira Smitson of W.Va. They have lived most of the latter years in Martinsville, Va. and have 3 children and 4 grandchildren (one deceased). Ronald Allen Akers married Shirley Caviness of Carroll Co. Va, where they have lived most of their life. They have 3 daughters and 6 great grandchildren. This is all that I have. Most of this came from an old bible my father kept. Very few names and fewer dates. I hope someone out there reads this that can help me. Thank you. Donna Akers
