Helly Cathy

No I have not heard of the book by Ruth Greene.
- When was the book published?
- Who was the publisher?

I was unaware that there were so many unmarked graves of unidentifiable Sophia victims.

Do they mention which cemetery this was Cathy?

Bruce Kato, Chief Curator of the Alaska State Museum mentions that Evergreen Cemetery Records in Alaska mentioned only three unknown bodies:
-two unknown males - recovered and buried July 29 and August 9, 1919
(there is a note that one of the unknown male victims was a fireman on board the Sophia)
- a girl or infant - recovered and buried August 2, 1919.

Bruce states the groundkeeper, Bob Groko was not able to locate the burial locations in the cemetery - and that he may not be able to do anything until the summer.

The administrator of the Dawson City Museum went through the papers from May 1, 1919 - Oct. 31, 1919 and came up with most of the names of the receovered bodies. She stated that "there were not many that were unidentified" and that they never found my grandather.

I have a copy of the article by Delgado. I had contacted the senior curator of the Maritime Museum - he referred me to the authors Coates & Morrison and O'Keefe and Macdonald. They referred me to the National Archives in Ottawa. The National Archives did not have a list of names of the second recovery of victims of the Sophia.

Good idea though, I will contact Delgado.

I am not aware of a website where descendants of the Sophia can register. If no one does that maybe in a year or two when I have some time - perhaps I will create such a website.

Thanks for taking the time Cathy in responding to my query.
