Gilbert Dixon Boyd-MA. went West 1880's

I am searching for any information on my g.g.grandfather Gilbert Dixon Boyd, b. 1864 in NYC. He lived in Cherry Valley, MA. in 1880's and worked as Wool Sorter- m. Christina D. Booth in 1885. At some point in the late 80's (early 90's?) he left his family and presumably headed West to find Gold. My Boyd relatives have long wondered where he went and what became of him (and his line) and now, I am hoping that the i-net will provide some clues. Does anyone know of a Boyd line in the West (Alaska, B.C., Yukon, etc.) that may have some connections with a New England line? If so, please let us know. Thanks-
A. Boyd Gilman
