Searching for information regarding my Grandmothers brother, Carl HOLMBERG born 20.9.( or 20.11)1874 in Leka, NORWAY, d. 1965 in USA, (SSI 574 01 5854), buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County, WA. Married to Georgine Sofie OLSEN, b.1885 in Gildeskaal, Arnoen, NORWAY. d. 1964 in USA, buried same place as husband. They emigrated from NORWAY to USA between 1901 – 1905. (First child born in Washington 1905.)
Known children:
Peter HOLMBERG, b. 1905, Washington
Marius ( MORRIS ) Pareli HOLMBERG, b. 24.1.1907, SEATTLE, WA. d. 05/1985, USA. (SSI 574-10-5032 AK, Residence XX953)? (Settled in Canada?)
Sigfred S. HOLMBERG, b. 1912 Washington ( may have died at an early age? )
Clara HOLMBERG, b. 1913 Washington
Alpha HOLMBERG, b. 1914 KETCHIKAN, Alaska ( Nickname "Dolly"?)
I have found Carl listed on the WW1 Civilian Draft Registrations. He then lived in KETCHIKAN Alaska. I have pictures from his wedding taken by a photographer in Seattle, WA. Carl worked in a company named Pacific American Fisheries, in KASAAN, Alaska in 1937 and lived in 121 Nadeau Avenue, Ketchikan. His son Peter may have worked as a civil servant in the coastguard sometime around 1940-1960?
The whole family are listed in the 1920 Census for ALASKA (Karl C. Holmberg)
This is all I know about Carl and his family and I have not been able to dig up any new info in a long time. WHO CAN HELP ME COME FURTHER?? One of Carl’s sisters in Norway (My Grandmother)got 13 children and two are still living, they desperately want to know what became of their uncle and his children, but time is running out. ANY tiny crumb of information will be VERY MUCH appreciated.
Jan Tiller, Australia
