A possible place to look would be records for the Morningside Hospital in Portland, Oregon. This place is no longer open, but there may be old records in Portland somewhere. Up to around 1910-20, when a old man was not able to care for himself and had no one to care for him, he would be sent to Morningside to be cared for. After that period the Alaska Pioneer Home was established in Sitka, Alaska to care for these old men. A word of caution, Morningside was also a mental hospital. My ggrandfather was sent there in his later years.
