Hi Janie,
In our database here in Skagway I have reference to three Peter Petersons:
1. Peter Peterson who died 4.16.1898 while ferrying a man to Dyea from Skagway and is buried in Dyea.
2. Peter Peterson a deep sea sailor born 1889 in Norway and was in jail at the time of the 1929 census.
3. Peter H. Peterson who was a partner w/J.T.Field in 1893 and started an early tram on the Chilkoot Trail which ran to the summit in 1893-5. This was from the Juneau Alaska News of February 1, 1894 and also wikipedia and Minter (The White Pass) a book.

Hope this helps.
