Hopefully someone on this Forum can answer a question concerning the 1900 Nome Census. It appears that much of
the 1900 Census was from ship passenger lists. Can you tell
me if the lists used were for ships arriving at Nome, or
ships leaving Nome, or both? If both is there any way to
distinguish which is which? I have an ancestor (W A Powell)
who shows on the passenger list for the "Steam Whaler Jeanie
of San Francisco" for May of 1900. I knew he was in the
Alaska gold rush but I didn't know where or when. Knowing
if he was arriving or leaving would be helpful. Any help
will be appreciated.
