Glad to meet someone whose family is as hard to track down as mine is!! Couldn't find too much but did find a Mary Coleman who worked as a servant in the home of Isaac Fahy in Waukesha WI in 1860. She was born in IRE and there is no mention of her parents. My theory is that Timothy planned to marry her but went looking for work. Found it on a farm in Pike Co Illinois. Came back and got Mary. Timothy and Mary show up on the Pike Co census for 1860 in the household of farmer Joseph Cronin. So, if my theory is correct they got married early summer and made the move to Illinois in time for the census there.
As for John Henry Bowles I did find him in the 1910 census of Broadwater Co MT, still single at age 47. Interestingly he states that his father was born in New Jersey! It looks like it says his mother born Missouri but writing is bad on that entry. Sounds like this ads more questions than answers, eh? Good luck.
