Hi Lois, I live in Alaska, and thought I would tell you what I think: Most of the military actions in WWII were in the Aleutian Islands (some refer to this as the chain);
My father in law was in the Aleutians during this time as well. I have not heard of the name that you remembered, but there was a lot of action going on at Attu, Amchitka,
Adak, Shemya, etc.
We live on an island in Southeast Alaska, Wrangell Island--there are many islands in Southeast, the ones that come to mind are maybe Admiralty, Baronof, Chichakof, Woronofski, Etolin, Zarembo, etc.
I don't think the island you are asking about is in Southeast Alaska---but I'm not certain.
My gut feeling is that it is Adak---because of the sound of your of the word.
Anyway, I hope this might help. I'm a Pace descendant, too.
