I am pleased to report that I have now identified Alexander Aitken, the journalist who called himself The Linton Plooman. He was born in 1905 at Eddleston,Peeblesshire and died in Leith in 1981. He was the natural son of Janet Forrest Aitken, daughter of Alexander Aitken and Margaret Inglis. He was both a journalist and a schoolteacher and was head of history at Leith Academy for many years. He was a railway enthusiast and a keen cyclist and vegetarian. He married Margaret Nelson Brown but they had no children. Thanks to Bob Brown for sharing his information with me. Oliver
