I am researching my family that came from the Shetland Islands. Thomas Aitken was the name of my grandfathers all the way back! Seems there were quite a few! The last one was born in 1839 and died in 1917 - he went to Orkney where he married Elizabeth Smith in 1862 - they had 16 children. His father, Thomas, born 10 Oct 1808 and died 11 Nov 1875 in Scalloway, Shetland, married Mary Morrison 10 Dec. 1815 died 21 Mary 1897 at Scalloway. They had 14 children!
Real big families!
