Hi Dave,you will find the Aindow line very interesting. They are Viking descendants, Formby being a Viking settlement early on. Some were farmers and some were fishermen, the latter generally manning the lifeboat station there. It is considered to be the earliest Lifeboat Station in England and maybe the world. During much of the 1800s, Aindows comprised some or most of the boat crew.
My grand mother was Sarah Aindow, born 1862. who married William Doherty and came to the USA.
Nearly all the Aindowws still live in and around Formby. There are a few in Canada, fewer in Australia and one or two in the US.
