Dear Dave,

Thanks for replying. Sorry not to have come back more promptly but I've been away from home.

Yes, sorry about the typo - should definitely read Aickin. Sometimes I type too fast for my own good and forget to check! I wouldn't be surprised if I make a silly mistake again in this message!

You ask how I connect up.Samuel Aicken (sometimes spelled Aickin) was one of my great-great-great-grandfathers. He married Mary Cullen. They had at least two daughters, Mary and Abigail. Mary married Ponsonby Watts - one of their sons was William Newcomen Watts and one of William's sons was Cecil Hobart Watts, the father of Merle Watts, my mother, who married Emile Phillips. How do you fit into the family?

There are a number of persons with their surname spelled Aikin that I've come across on the Findmypast Ireland webpages, but they don't seem to be part of Samuel's clan in terms of location.

A couple of my cousins in Canada and I are continually researching the Aickin family and we have discovered quite a bit about Samuel. We are now trying to match him up with the various Aickin you have listed in order to try to trace his ancestry back further. As you say, you never know when something will turn up.

You are welcome to get in touch with me via e-mail - my address is, I think, on the Genforum pages, I tried John Longridge with the address given but it must be an old one, as my message bounced back.

Regards, Derrick
