HI, James Aikin was born in Lauderdale County Tn Mar 6, 1898. He was separated from family at a very young age but remembered his Dad, James Henry Akins (his spelling)and sister Susan. Older people in the community remembered the family and thought parents died in a flu epidemic early 1900's. The census of 1900 lists the family in the correct community with the correct neighbors and spelled the name "Aikin". James,Mar 1846; Mary C,1849; (married 24 yrs) Susan, Aug 1878; Elizabeth, Nov 1880; Perlina?, 1887, Victoria, 1889; Albert, 1891; Alice, 1897; JAMES,mar 1898--And a 5yr old daughter of the 21yr old Susan living there named Clara Hugh Hamilton.Other Aikins living nearby :Octa---? not sure, widow b1858 in NC had 5 living children of 10, living with her, Lila, Oscar, Charles, Myrtle, Mattie. James Akins was my Dad, died in 1980 and we always thought he was an orphan and never knew what happened to his sisters as he only remembered Susan(Susie) Please reply, I'm out of leads. And thanks for creating this website.
