Robert Aikins was born probably of Scotch ancestry, in Ulster, Ireland. In 1787 he married
Mary Atteburn in Washington County, Pennsylvania. She was born in Washington, Pennsylvania and died sometime after 1823. Robert died in 1823 in Zanesville, Morgan, Ohio.
There were reports that Robert died when crushed by a falling tree.

2. Samuel Aikins (Robert[1]) was born in September 21, 1790 in Pennsylvania. He married Caroline Matilda Duvall on May 15, 1823 in Muskingum County, Ohio, daughter of Lt. Jacob Duvall and Jemima Anne Taylor. She was born on June 14, 1796, Prince Georges County, Maryland and died September 2, 1834. After Caroline’s death Samuel married Margaret Hayes the daughter of John Hays and Sarah on October 12, 1835. She was born 1816-1818, New York.
Samuel died at home, near Silver Creek, Merrick, Nebraska, as the result of burns suffered in a prairie fire.
He was counted in the US Census September 21, 1850 in Swan Twp, Vinton, Ohio. He was also counted in the US Census June 20, 1860 in the town of Kewanee, Henry County, Illinois.
Caroline was first married to John Lamb on, May 7, 1818, in Muskingum County, Ohio.

William Aikins was a Probate Judge in Pawnee County, Nebraska. His wife died and Pawnee City had no cemetery to bury her in. He buried her on his farm and later donated the land to the city for a cemetery. Several of the Aikins family are buried at Pawnee City, Nebraska.

Samuel moved at the start of the Civil War to Ebner’s near Aledo, Mercer, Illinois. He moved after the Civil War to Henry County, Illinois, back to the old home. He then moved in 1867 to Mercer County and rented a farm near Wn Doak. Moving to Rock Island in 1868 he bought an 80 acre farm near Hamlet. He moved in 1869 to an 80 acre farm ½ mile north of Aledo.

Ichabod married Rosa Catherine Powell, daughter of Eaton Powell and Mary Causey, on April 2, 1853, in Mulberry Grove, Bond County, Illinois. Rosa was born September 26, 1836 in Tennessee. She died on May 13, 1917 at South Mound, Neosho, Kansas.

Ichabod enlisted in Company F 49th Illinois Infantry on November 17, 1861 to serve in the Civil War and mustered out on January 9, 1865.
Company “F” captured a desirable rebel officer. Somehow this rebel managed to break loose and mount a horse. Ichabod realizing that the rebel was wanted for questioning alive, and that here was a shortage of horses, promptly drew one of his fine Remington revolvers. He took aim and the .36 roared and t he rebel fell to the ground along with his saddle. The only damage done was a split saddle due to Ichabod’s precise aim at the pommel of the wood framed saddle. The result of this heroic, quick-thinking act was that Ichabod was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
When his youngest son was old enough to travel he packed up his family leaving Fayette, Illinois and headed for the Osage Indian Mission Area in Southeast Kansas.
Ichabod was a rifle smith building the famed Kentucky type rifles. When his youngest son Lawrence was old enough, he not only taught him to hunt, but he also built him a rifle.

Ichabod Aikins died yesterday morning at the advanced age of nearly 74 years. Mr. Aikins was born in Champaign County, Ohio, April 2, 1828. He moved to Illinois while quite young and was married April 2, 1853, to Rosa Powell who survives him, November 17, 1861, he enlisted in Co. F 49th Illinois and filled the position of Sergeant. He participated in twenty-four battles and served until January 9, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. He joined the G.A.R. post here July 13, 1889, and remained a member until his death. Mr. Aikins came to Kansas January 2, 1882 and for many years resided on a farm south of town. Advanced in age he moved to town two or three years ago. About a year ago he was struck by a train and received injuries from which he never recovered. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all.
Ichabod, Rosa and their daughter Susan are buried in the Hope Cemetery St. Paul, Neosho County, Kansas.
Rosa had three younger brothers who went to fight in the Civil War, two were killed in battle and one was discharged early.
When living on the prairie in Illinois Rosa once had to hide one of her babies in the flour bin so that the Indians who came visiting would not find the baby.

Mrs. Rose Aikins died at the home of her son at South Mound, May 13, at the advanced age of 80 years, five months and 17 days. The remains were brought to St. Paul Monday and buried in Hope cemetery.
Rose Catherine Powell was born in Tennessee, September 26, 1836. She was united in marriage to Ichabod Aikins April 2, 1853, at Mulberry Grove, Illinois, and came to Kansas in the early eighties. Her husband died Feb. 26, 1902, and since then Mrs. Aikins had been making her home with her children here and at South Mound. She was the mother of ten (only 7) children, four of whom survive her. The living are Mrs. Sophia Sterling, of Parsons, Oliver Aikins, of South Mound, Joshua (Josiah) Aikins, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Lawrence Aikins of St. Paul.
Mrs. Aikins had been a faithful member of the M.E. Church for years, and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. Traganza, who is pastor of the church, both here and at South Mound.
The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of everyone.

22. Olive Delinda Aikins ( Israel2, Robert1 ) was born in 1846, in Ohio and died in 1882, in Fort Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas. She married Augustin Parfait Mignot (Parphy Mineo) October 29, 1867 in Vandalia, Fayette County, Illinois. He was born January 25, 1843 in Commune de Vanault-les-Dames, Canton D’Heiltz-le-Manrupt, Marne, France, the son of Jean Bapiste Alexis Mignot and Marie Eleine (Halene) LaHammee.
Obituary
Mrs. Olive D. Mineo died at the boarding house of Mr. Gallager at Fort Scott, last Friday, at about 3 o’clock p.m. after a short illness of Malaria fever. The remains were embalmed by the Weaver Brothers, and shipped to Osage Mission via the Missouri Pacific yesterday at noon, where they will be interred in the cemetery west of town on Saturday. She was 36 years old.
Parphy lived in France with his parents until 1856, when he came to America with them. They settled in Cumberland County, Illinois near Hazel Dell. He later moved and homesteaded in Osage Indian country, Neosho County, Kansas. On February 18, 1871, Parphy became an American Citizen in Neosho County, Kansas. He renounced forever “allegiance to the Empire of France and particularly to Napolian II. Emperor.” He signed the paperwork “ParphyMineo”.
He died of “lung fever” (pneumonia) at the age of 36. The inscription on his tombstone reads. “Farewell dear with my children all” P. A. Mineo.

William married Phebe Jane Ebner, the daughter of Daniel Ebner and Elizabeth Welliver, on April 7, 1860 in Henry County, Illinois. Phebe was born on December 25, 1841 in Pennsylvania. She died April 10, 1863 in Pawnee, Nebraska. After Phebe’s death William married Anna Meriah Shellhorn, the daughter of Jacob Balsor Shellhorn and Elizabeth Ent on August 12, 1866 in the residence of Rev. H.M. Giltner, Pawnee County, Nebraska. Anna was born on September 8, 1847. She died July 8, 1923 in Pawnee, Nebraska.

He first married Keiza Elizabeth Harter Beecher the daughter of Lucinda Kepler Harter on February 26, 1895 at Osage Mission, St. Paul Neosho County, Kansas. “Libby” was born September 16, 1858 in Indiana and died June 11, 1915 at South Mound, Neosho County, Kansas. After her death Oliver married Anna Faye Beecher the daughter of Rufus Beecher and Keiza Elizabeth Harter on March 8, 1916 at Parsons, Labette County, Kansas. Anna was born on February 21, 1888 at Osage Mission, St. Paul, Kansas and died May 23, 1973 in Chanute, Neosho, Kansas.
Oliver was a farmer and Blacksmith in South Mound, Kansas, owing his own business “Wagon, Carriage and Plow Works”. The building is still standing in South Mound, yet was moved to the other side of the road (2002).
Obituary
Pioneer Kansan succumbs at home in Mt. Pleasant area. Erie—Oliver Elsworth Aikins 75 years old, died Friday at his home, 7 ½ miles northwest of Erie in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood. Born in Moultry (Moultrie) County, Illinois Oct 18, 1865 Aikins had lived in Kansas since he was 10 yrs old. He was married to Anna Beecher of Parsons March 9, 1915. Survivors are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. M. A. Thompson of St. Paul, seven sons Clarence of St. Paul, Forrest of Chanute, Carl and Dean of Erie. Harry, Roy and Ray of the home. A sister Mrs. Starling (Sterling), Parsons and a brother Lawrence of St. Paul. Aikins was a member of the Methodist Church of South Mound. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the South Mound Church. Conducted by the Rev. Ira Nicklin of the Federated Church at Erie. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Heaton funeral home until time for services.
Keiza Elizabeth Beecher’s first husband brought her mother and children to the Osage Indian Mission area. One of her sons died before leaving Indiana and two daughter died at Osage Mission of Scarlet fever. The next year Rufus died while breaking a horse for a man. They are buried at Hope Cemetery at St. Paul, Kansas
Keiza died of kidney failure and was buried at South Mound Cemetery by her mother and young son.

Frankie was helping his father cut brush along the river bank when he stepped out on the ice and fell through. No one was able to reach him and he drowned. He died on Christmas day. He is buried at South Mound Cemetery, Kansas.

36. Josiah Ichabod Aikins (Ichabod3, Israel2, Robert1 ) was born on October 24, 1867 in Moultrie County, Illinois and died on September 11, 1930 at South Mound, Kansas. He married Elizabeth Cornick on February 26, 1896. Elizabeth was born March 1880, and died before 1920.

Charles drowned in the Neosho River and was buried at South Mound Cemetery.
Forrest found Uncle “Si” very sick camped down by the river in his wagon. After getting him some water to drink he ran for help. Uncle” Si” died soon after and was buried next to his son Charley at South Mound Cemetery.
37. Susan Elizabeth Aikins (Ichabod3, Israel2, Robert1 ) was born on September 16, 1872 in Moultrie County Illinois. She died on June 17, 1903. Susan married M. Allen Cowan on October 1, 1902 at St. Paul, Kansas.
Obituary
Mrs. M.A. Cowan died yesterday morning after an illness of only a few hours. Tuesday afternoon she went to the depot with her mother who was going to South Mound to visit her sons. Before the train arrived she began feeling bad and her Mother gave up her trip. Together they started home, but they had not gone far before she became too ill to proceed and then was taken to he home of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson near by. There she remained until evening where she was carried home on a cot. Drs. McNamara and Day both did all they could for her but she died at 5 o’clock yesterday morning.
Susan Elizabeth Aikins, daughter of Mr. Ichabod Aikins was born in Moultrie County, Illinois September 16, 1872. She came to Kansas with her parents in January 1882 and resided here until her death. October 1, 1902 she was united in marriage to M.A. Cowan, who survives her.
The deceased was a member of the M.C. Church and the funeral services will be held at the church at 10:00 a.m. today. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all. Susan was the youngest sister of Oliver E. Aikins.
Susan is buried at Hope Cemetery in St. Paul, Kansas
(Susan had stepped on a rusty nail and got blood poisoning)
38. Lawrence Aikins (Ichabod3, Israel2, Robert1 ) was born July 5, 1876, in Fayett County, Illinois, and died December 1,1956 in St. Paul, Kansas. Lawrence married Sarah Eva Herrin on March 19, 1902. Sarah was born in 1879 the daughter of James Franklin Herrin, at Stark, Kansas. She died in 1956.
Lawrence, Sarah and Thelma are buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Stark, Kansas
