If the name was Piedmont then it most likely was the Virginia-North Carolina border Area. There is a VA-NC Genealogical Society:

The use of the word "college" is also probably incorrect. The area was settled by Church communities of various congregations so look at historic Churches that may have hosted a school of teaching English, and not just for "Indians" but the newer immigrants from the "Old Country" joining their Churches.
But have you looked at the William Eddins/Eddings of Abbeyville County South Carolina? There is also a "Piedmont area" of South Carolina where a William Eddins (Eddings) was connected to the Baptist Church of the area.
