NC was a state before the others. I have an ancestor like that born in 3 different states depending on census. GA, LA, AL take your pick she is untraceable and died in Arkansas 1800-1900 no burial found. I loath researching people who move around. At least my Burke and Wilkes lines stay put for 150 years but they are not who they say they are and matching some families I naver heard of or I never expected they would match like possible Sneed. I only knew that name from Granville and that they owned slaves. Nothing more and not sure if this rogue Jacob in Burke is related to Granville Sneed. I bet it is too far back if he was the patriarch of some of the Sneeds unless some Cherokee Sneeds Y-DNA tested and matches people who Y DNA test that can document being Jacob Sneeds line outside the tribe and they match. All that may prove is Jacob may have had some white children and some Cherokee or someone in his lines did.

Its possible the Burns near Conrad are white. Those old census especially prior to removal and not going to tell you who is what. I dont know what the Burns may have owned and who they were or what they owned. As far as we know Conrad is white and German. There are a lot of German in our area. I dont know if the Burns were but they could have been. The Clein and Rhynes lived near Conrad too and they were German. Shells were German. Being that the Hildebrands are white and a known well to do family they probably have some what of a solid paper trail. Following the Euro Hildebrands look to see if the other surnames you are researching are around them. I dont know if some of them took off to TN or GA but Wilkes county was part of TN before TN was a state. Burke and Wilkes were on top of one another before more counties formed. Our Father lines so far all white just some of them are not who they say they are and who were their mothers and wives??? Some have no documents of parents at all. whatever is going on seems to come more so through the women.

In general there are people in our area that can be documented to fathering Cherokee children. Some of them married and had sweeties on the side. This is just a guess why they took all the deeds around removal. Some of those children may have owned land and they were trying to hide them. Court officials in our area related to the Cherokee and against AJ. Last thing these guys would want is to force their children to remove so better to hide them. Those children would not have been entitled to inheritance from their white fathers either because only legit children got inheritance and at that point AI could not own land. Also in this time frame people were getting rev war land in the area. if some of them were AI and wanted that land they said nothing and could have stayed where they were and collected. We have one martin who filed rev war in Buncombe and in his app they make it a point to say he was "Very Dark" no mention of AI or African and I have not checked his actual war records to see if he has race listed or not. This is a Martin line that lived around my Jacob Hood and moved to Buncombe or border changed over to a new county but Jacob Martin has never proven to be related to my Jacob Hood.

These autosomal cousins tests are very complicated and can go to any ancestor on any side of your tree. It also wont tell you the match you share is an AI, Euro, African etc ancestor. It wont tell you specific what ancestor but in general we are matching a lot of Sneed from our area and some at close range. You have to try and overlap your DNA segments between your matches and figure out what 3rd party matches you all share same dna on same Chromsome in location and then try to come up with a common ancestor. I can do this at Family tree DNA and why I know the close Sneed match has something to do with our Piercy McMillans because we share a 3rd party close match and in looking at this Elder Jacob Sneed he is in the right area where my Piercy/McMillans were. With ancestry we cant compare 3rd party matches only trees to try and come up with a common ancestor. Im sure you are aware that many on ancestry cut and paste without ever ordering a record. How do you match up to people if their tree is documented wrong. Being that our closer match with Conrad is at ancestry I have no way to see what other matches I might share in common with them. Im so curious why I match his family!!

I dont know if you thought about it but an autosomal relative finder test might help you find some connection to Alex Burns if you can find Burns cousin matches in a common area and then be able to over lap the DNA segments. I have matches who list nothing. Or maybe only one ancestor they are stuck on and have no interest in discussing other ancestors. AT Family Tree you can put your DNA under any name you want, You dont have to give your real name. With ancestry the DNA gets attached to your account but you can tell them it's someone else DNA rather than yous!!Just a thought
