I dont know the answer as to how many tribal members still speak their language. My X is Eastern Band Cherokee and most but not all of his family do speak the Cherokee language. The Eastern Band do now require the Cherokee language be taught in school so the ones who may have lost their language are now learning it again. The Eastern Band have 2 different dialects so im not sure which dialect or maybe both are being taught in the Cherokee schools. As for my X's family and their Indian names, truth I never asked LOL. His family traditional so Im sure they have Indian names but they always used their English names or nicknames.
