Hi Robert, Thanks for responding to my post.Yes I have thought about her name being an english surname such as O'keith, O'Keef, O'keefe and other variations of this name.The problem is there aren't any O'Keefes, O'keiths etc listed anywhere near where my family was located and I believe none listed anywhere in South Carolina during this time.So I find it hard that her name could be a surname such as this.Of course, I could be wrong though almost anything is possible in geneology.It is possible also that her Husband gave her an english sounding name to make it easier to pronounce.I did find one person listed as a Civil War soldier in Maryland whose name was listed as O'cief but with further research, a family member of this person told me that his name was spelled wrong.
