I am glad I was directed to this post. According to the 1880 US Federal Census, there were 61,879 people, who were enumerated, as Indian. This did not include the Indians of Oklahoma, as it was not included in the US Federal Census that year. This Federal Us Census is partly factual, as there were many mistakes made on them. The one mistake, is the actual count is not correct. There were many who were to scared to say they were Indian, but, thier families are looking for them today. I have found 9 of mine own, who were listed as Indian, and many more who were not, but they were decended from these Indians, who were on that 1880 Census. Facts are facts, and that is documented history. Something to think about, when you have so many who have been told the handed down stories of their elders. This is not a myth. The native American people told there children and grandchildren the stories of their families, This is also well documented by the Native American People of all tribes, on Dawes records, and many other records, books written by Native Americans of many tribes. I have always known who I am, as I will pass this knowledge on to my children, and my grandchildren. Native American people have always been taught to be respectable people, and for the most part of my life, most all Native American I have every come in contact with, have been this way. I also was disappointed to read many of the post on this board. I felt really ashamed of the post. Thank you Christina, for a different point of view, and your kind words. Vidia
