"A very singular superstitious rite was performed annually by the Shiawassee Indians at a place called Pindatongoing (meaning the place where the spirit of sound or echo lives), about two miles above Newburg, on the Shiawassee River, where the stream was deep and eddying."Our heritage is there or Ojibwa or Chippewa.I am just going from info from my dad and his sisters who are gone now.None of us look native but I believe there is native not too far back.I know the word means something like "river that twists about."
