Seeking Tribal Affiliation to my Secord Lineage

I need help. I am trying to figure out what Tribe my Grandmother's family was from. They are also French Canadian. Here's what I know:
My Dad's Grandfather, Robert Addison Secord b. 1826, Niagra City, Ontario, Canada; m. Lucy A. Olmstead (wife #2) b. 1837 also in Canada. They met and married in Illinois in 1858. Their kids were born in Rock Island, IL. Of their children, the first born daughter Emma married a William Leffert. They lived and died on the Res in Powhattan, KS. They were always referred to as Aunt Emma and Uncle Bill. When I went to Powhattan, I was amazed to see that Uncle "Bill's" headstone read only "MAHLON". (I do not know what that means, but would like to.) I also have a picture of Emma's brother, my Dad's Uncle Frank Secord and his wife, and Uncle Frank looks like a full-blooded Indian. Now, here's where I don't know which way to go. MY Aunt, whose mother was Laura Adella Secord Hawthorne, told me that we carried Iriquois blood. But, My Uncle Bill told his kids, my cousin's, that we were Blackfoot. My Dad, Aunt's and Uncle's have all passed and the same with most of the 1st cousin's, but while some were still alive and we were conversing about this situation they were as confused as I am as to what is right and how to research it. A picture of my Dad as a 12 yr old to me, shows the Indian heritage. But pictures of my Uncle's in their 20's really confirms my beliefs. The picture I have of my Dad's Uncle Frank I have shown to some full blooded Indian's I know here in CA. and they agree, he definitely carries Indian blood. My family is from MO and NE, but basically spent their lives in Nebr. City. I know (or I think I know) the Iriquois are basically Canadian and north eastern U.S. Blackfoot I thought were Canadian and more down thru the midwest. I have been looking for so long I think my brain is "locked" as far as new ideas. I know the Secord's are known to have mixed with Indian tribes since the beginning of their coming to Canada. It had to do with lifestyles: they were fur trappers and traders, they seemed to identify with the Indian culture as opposed to the British culture. But then names sometimes were changed so they would be accepted by whites. And then there was the situation where no one would talk about the heritage for fear of their children being taken away and sent off to Carlisle School. My brother told me (this was in the early 1930's) that when Government men came to Nebr. City, they kids were told if they came to their homes to hid in the closets until they left - that's how afraid they were. So I feel lucky that I was given any information at all, but now I want to know more don't know what direction to go. Any help would be so appreciated. E-mail me direct: dlr276@aol.com. I would greatly appreciate it.
