I agree that the judgement of whether a group is a legitimate tribe or not, is not up to an individual. That is why there are laws - Indian Nation laws, and U.S. Federal Laws, and even International Laws. All have something to say about how a group establishes whether it is legitimate and entitled to be called an Indian Nation at all.Notice that state recognition is not included in that group. That is also why I offered the documented comments I made previously.
None of those authorities have "blessed" the Ohio group.I'm perfectly aware they did not seek Federal recognition - nor did they seek recognition from the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, nor the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians of North Carolina, nor, the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma... the ONLY LEGITIMATE Cherokee entities, i.e. tribal groups/nations/bands,in the world.Who better than the legitimate Cherokee people themselves to say whether the folks in Ohio are their relatives? And that lack of approbation by the real Cherokee people is supported by the U.S. government.
This "conversation" is ended now, from my side. There is really nothing else to say.People will believe what they like - either the objective and historically accurate facts of the situation or mythology made up by who knows what group of people of unknown origin and without demonstrable honor when it comes to acknowledging real Cherokee people, and real Cherokee history.
